Eric Carlson, Partner and CEO

Eric Carlson started his career at CAA where he spent 14 years, oversaw two divisions and packaged over $2 billion worth of TV and Film. As CEO and co-founder of CK&D, he works to create content, campaigns and partnerships that will drive positive social change and bring national attention to our nonprofit clients such as The UN Foundation, the American Heart Association, the Bright Focus Foundation, Augie’s Quest and many more. Eric is also an award-winning television, motion picture and documentary producer.

Eric, along with his wife, Susan Carlson, have built the development roster for their film & television company, CK&D Media, which includes feature films, television shows, and limited series at Universal, Netflix, Disney + and HBO Max to name just a few. They have projects in many different stages of production, all of which have an inspirational and/or positive message within the story meant to produce change while entertaining the audience. 

Susan & Eric are the proud parents of Spencer & Samantha, who both recently graduated from college.

Susan Miller Carlson, Partner

Susan Carlson started her career at Creative Artists Agency (CAA) working with clients, brands and special projects, including raising funds to rebuild UCLA Hospital & Medical Center. As Chief of Staff for the CEO of CAA and a twenty-year tenure, Susan developed and maintains many high-level relationships with actors, directors and writers, along with the music industry and sports world. This aids in CK&D’s ability to work with large foundations, B-Corps and major charitable organizations to build entertainment strategy that raises awareness, funds and helps bring about change in their area of expertise. Susan has produced multiple PSA’s with major actors, director’s & writers which have garnered millions of dollars in donated media and even saved lives, in the case of the American Heart Association.

Judi Ketcik, Partner

Judi is co-founder of CK&D. Having built her entire professional career as a communication strategist and social responsibility expert, she has a wealth of experience creating some of the most successful cause-related campaigns for major corporations and leading nonprofit clients. 

At CK&D, Judi spearheads a number of highly successful and award-winning initiatives spanning global health, the environment, education and social justice. Combining entertainment, media and public relations strategies, CK&D’s social action efforts consistently bring about high impact, increased revenue, measurable change and positive growth over time.  

Before creating CK&D, she was the Vice President of Communications at the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF), the leading charity in Hollywood. She worked with an array of corporate donors and was part of the senior management team that launched a number of successful national campaigns, including the first-ever, all-network roadblock fundraising campaign called Stand Up to Cancer. Her efforts directly contributed to EIF’s exponential growth in just a few short years, expanding from a $20 million to a $125 million non-profit organization. Prior to this, Judi was the lead account executive for Ronald McDonald House Charities, a global children’s nonprofit, and held senior positions at two of the world’s largest PR agencies.

Judi is a talented writer and avid reader. She has written a number of travel articles that were published in Travel My Way, a travel magazine that was distributed exclusively in the New York Times, and is currently working on a children’s book series. Most weekends, you’ll find Judi cycling the backroads of California or with close friends entertaining and preparing for a dinner feast.        

Kristen Barnfield, PR & Communications

Kristen leads CK&D’s expanding public relations and communications practice and is charged with elevating the agency’s strength as a strategist for nonprofit, purpose-driven companies and global initiatives. She is currently focused on strategic work to support Shedd Aquarium, Easterseals, BrightFocus Foundation, CureSMA, NEXT for Autism, Child 360 and Augie’s Quest to Cure ALS.

With twenty years of experience, Kristen was most recently Vice President of Public Relations and Communications for Easterseals, the seventh largest charity in America committed to supporting people with disabilities. As a chief “storyteller,” Kristen was also part of Easterseals executive team, representing the PR/Communications and Integrated Marketing functions and collaborating on the organization’s business. She directly supported Easterseals president and CEO, Easterseals Chair of the Board, and core leadership team in a variety of communications, and proudly served as Easterseals’ primary point of contact for all crisis and issues management. She and her team oversaw and guided the organization’s thought leadership efforts, developing select groups of subject matter experts/spokespersons, brand ambassadors, and affiliate marketing staff nationwide.

Ben Kiester, CFO

Ben heads up the financial department at CK&D as Chief Financial Officer. He is a liaison with our nonprofit clients running the day-to-day operations of our Los Angeles office.  His background is in entertainment finance and film production; he helped launch HBO’s first comedy programming in 1984 with two series “First and Ten” and “The Investigators” written and directed by Barry Levinson.  He also worked for Dan Curtis Production’s ABC Circle Films made for television 10 episode 2-hour miniseries “War of Remembrance” with Academy Award-winning director Branko Lustig, also known for his producer and director’s work on “Sophie’s Choice” and “Schindler’s List.”

Prior to CK&D he served as CFO for several private investment groups including a minority owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers football team speculating in high end residential construction and development.

His vast land development portfolio valued at $225MM includes many landmark residential estates valued at $40M+ located in Brentwood on Tiger Tail Road, lower Mandeville Canyon and Blue Jay Way in Beverly Hills, CA.

Ben originates from Los Angeles and graduated from Cal State University at Northridge with a B.S. in Business Administration/Accounting and a Minor in Economics.  He resides in Westwood, CA with his partner Mike Ragan and his two Weimaraner’s Olive & Dover.
